I am often surprised at the outpouring of love adults show for their animals. However, when I received the below email I was brought to tears!

Dear Mrs. Mellott,

I should introduce myself, I’m Mackenzie, I’m nine years old and love helping your organization. I just had my 9^th birthday party and asked my friends to donate pet food for Petey’s Promise instead of giving me a gift.  I feel good doing this because it could be our family who loses our animals because of the economy.  I like trying to help people keep their pets.  My mom and I have 2 dogs, 3 cats and 2 horses.  One of our cats was dropped off at our house and is going to have kittens.

My friends and I have collected 3 big bags and 1small bag of dog food and 1 big and 1 small bag of cat food.

I think some people believe that this is only happening to cats and dogs but we should also help animals such as horses, maybe ferrets, pet birds, and any other unusual pet. Thanks for starting Petey’s Promise and helping a lot of people take care of their pets.  If you need any help just contact me or my mom.
